Complete Watch Service & Overhaul RG Watch Repair Center, Hong Kong Restoring Peak Performance, Preserving the Value of Your Timepiece

_edited.jpg

Give your precision timepiece a thorough, in-depth "health check" with a complete maintenance service.

Just as a high-performance car requires regular factory maintenance, your beloved watch—a mechanical work of art composed of hundreds of precision components—needs periodic deep servicing to ensure it remains perfectly accurate for decades to come.

A "Complete Service" or "Full Overhaul" is the core of maintaining the long-term, stable performance of a mechanical watch. It is far more than a simple cleaning; it is a process of rebirth that restores the movement to a condition approaching its original factory standards. At RG Watch Repair Center, we apply time-honored Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship to provide the most thorough and meticulous overhaul service for your cherished timepiece.

Why is a Complete Service (Full Overhaul) Essential for Your Watch?

Neglecting regular maintenance is like running a precision machine without lubrication; it can eventually lead to irreversible and costly damage to the movement.

1. Restore Peak Accuracy

By clearing away old, congealed oils and applying new, specialized lubricants, we minimize internal friction within the movement, restoring your watch's timekeeping to its peak precision.

2. Ensure Mechanical Durability

Promptly replacing any worn microscopic components prevents them from failing unexpectedly in the future, which can cause chain-reaction damage to other parts of the movement.

3. Prevent Moisture & Dust Intrusion

During a complete service, we replace the full set of aging water-resistance gaskets and perform rigorous pressure tests to ensure your watch case is perfectly sealed, just as it was when it left the factory.

4. Preserve Value & Legacy

A timepiece with a consistent and professional service history not only performs reliably but also commands a higher value in the pre-owned market. It is a precious asset that you can confidently pass down to the next generation.

Unveiling the Nine Professional Steps of a Complete Overhaul

With the utmost transparency, we invite you to see every step of the restoration journey your cherished timepiece will experience in our workshop. Contact Us

1. Reception & Initial Assessment

Our master watchmaker will document your watch's current condition, take an initial reading of its timekeeping data on a timing machine, and test its water resistance.

2. Case & Movement Separation

The bracelet is carefully detached, and the watch case is separated from the movement, which is still fitted with the dial and hands system.

3. Complete Movement Disassembly

In the most technically demanding step of the process, our watchmaker will methodically and completely disassemble the hundreds of components in the movement—from the largest automatic rotor to the most microscopic screw.

4. Professional Ultrasonic Cleaning

All movement components are placed in specialized baskets and immersed in a series of Swiss-imported cleaning solutions. Multi-frequency ultrasonic vibrations then thoroughly remove all residual congealed oils and microscopic metal particles.

5. Parts Inspection & Replacement

Under a high-magnification microscope, our watchmaker meticulously inspects every component for wear, deformation, or metal fatigue. Any parts that no longer meet the original manufacturer's specifications are replaced with new, high-quality components.

6. Precision Reassembly & Oiling (Lubrication)

Following the manufacturer's technical specifications, the watchmaker reassembles the movement. Using at least 4-7 premium Swiss lubricants of varying viscosities, a microscopic amount of oil is precisely applied to key friction points (such as the escapement and gear pivots) to ensure peak performance.

7. Timing Calibration & Regulation

The fully assembled movement is placed on a professional timing machine. It is then precisely regulated in multiple positions to ensure its daily rate of error meets the highest standard for that specific caliber.

8. Case Cleaning & Water Resistance Testing

While the movement is being regulated, the case and bracelet undergo a deep ultrasonic cleaning. Before the movement is recased, we replace the full set of water-resistance gaskets, including those for the case back and crown, and conduct a series of vacuum and pressure tests to guarantee water resistance.

9. Final Quality Control

The fully assembled watch is placed on an automatic watch winder for several days to simulate the conditions of daily wear. This final test ensures its power reserve, automatic winding efficiency, and timekeeping stability are all performing perfectly before it is returned to you.

About Complete Service & Overhaul - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Understanding the cause of an issue is the first step in any professional repair.

Our Commitment: We always provide a full diagnosis and quotation first. We will never proceed with any chargeable repairs without your prior approval.   Contact Us

Q1: How often should my watch receive a complete service and overhaul?

A1: We recommend the following service intervals:

  • Automatic & Manual-Winding Watches: Every 3 - 5 years.

  • Chronographs & Other Complicated Watches: Every 3 - 4 years, as their complex mechanisms experience greater wear.

  • Watches in Long-Term Storage: Even when not worn, lubricants can degrade over time. We recommend a full service before you begin wearing the watch again.

Q2: Does a complete overhaul service include case and bracelet refinishing/polishing?

A2: Our standard complete overhaul focuses on restoring the movement's performance and the watch's water resistance, which includes a deep ultrasonic cleaning of the case and bracelet. Professional case and bracelet refinishing is a separate, optional service. You can request this during your consultation, and our watchmaker will provide expert advice based on your watch's condition.

Q3: How long does a complete overhaul take?

A3: Due to our extremely rigorous process, which includes several days of quality control and testing, a standard complete overhaul service typically takes 3 to 4 weeks to complete.

Q4: What is the approximate cost of a complete overhaul?

A4: The cost primarily depends on the watch's brand and the complexity of its movement. For a basic automatic watch, our overhaul service generally starts from HK$1,500. The cost for chronographs or more complicated models will be higher. We will provide you with a precise quotation after receiving your watch and performing an initial assessment.
